We want to further gauge interest in a 6:45-8:00am practice time for middle school swimmers (with late school start time).

We want to reserve appropriate lane space, but need to guage your interest. Open only to Jr 1, 2, & Advanced Developmental level swimmers.

2017 END of Summer & BEGINNING of Fall Notices…


1) Our new web address is now mymariettamarlins.com Please save as a “Favorite Place” and visit there often. Thank you all for your recent, helpful comments-suggestions to help make our website useful for all!

2) Regular practices have ended, for everyone, everywhere, every time!

However…for those going to Zones, U.S. Open, Futures, Jr. Nationalssee your coaches; you swimmers know who you are.

3) New season begins Monday afternoon, August 21 for Jr. 1 & 2 and all Senior groups. New season begins with our normal dry land/swim start up. Watch for more news; plan to bring running gear, water, and swimming gear as usual.

4) New season for Discovery & Developmental groups begin their Fall schedule the week of, September 5.

5) We want to gauge interest in the 6:45-8:00am practice time at MVAC for middle school swimmers (who have a late school start time). We want to reserve appropriate lane space, but need your input. Open to Jr 1, 2, & Advanced Developmental swimmers. Let Coach Larry know via larry@larrybaskin.com To start September 5. 6) Practices at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center (CCAC) will continue!

Mornings: 6-7:30am Monday & Wednesday with Coach Larry.

Evenings: 5-7:30pm Monday-Friday with Coach Julia. (Fridays times adjust to high school meets in late Fall). If possible, Cherokee County residents are encouraged (not required) to swim CCAC.

USA SWIMMING: Scholastic All-America Program

Application Process closes August 15, 2017

Now’s the time to get your application in as a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. August 15 is the deadline!

2016-2017 Academic Qualifications

•Grade completion requirement – applicant must have completed 10th, 11th, or 12th grade GPA Requirement – minimum 3.5 GPA for the current academic year.

•A=4, B=3, C=2. If numerical grades are used, the following scale will be used unless the school’s letter grade conversion is given on the transcript: A=90-100; B=80-89; C=70-79.

•Honors, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and dual credit college level academic courses will earn one half (.5) extra Grade Point. Grades for academic subjects only are calculated – history/social studies, English, mathematics, sciences, foreign languages, arts (visual and performing), computer sciences. A grade lower than a C in an academic subject will mean automatic rejection of the applicant. Grades for non-academic courses will NOT be calculated – band, choir, health, driver education, physical education, and any other class marked non-academic on a transcript.

•There will be no special status designation for a 4.0 GPA other than for a national champion who also has a 4.0 GPA.

Pool Requirements

•Applicants must have swum an individual pool time equal to a 2016 Winter Junior qualifying time in any individual event during the SAA qualifying period (August 16, 2016 – August 15, 2017) with qualifying times in SWIMS – list of times are posted on the USA Swimming website. A qualifying time will be available for selection from the SWIMS database during the application process. Only ONE time is necessary and only ONE application is necessary.

•Disability or Open Water Requirements (for athletes without pool requirements)
• 2017 Deaflympics– July 18-30, 2017, Samsun, Turkey
• 2016 Can-Am Open – November 25-27, 2016, Miami, FL
• 2017 Speedo Can-Am Para Championships – Mar 31-Apr 2, 2017, Windsor, ON
• 2017 Open Water National Championships – May 19-21, 2017, Castaic Lake, CA

Marlins Try Outs Scheduled for July…

Tell your summer league swim friends about the Marlins team tryouts!

July 11 Tuesday, 13 Thursday, 18 Tuesday, 20 Thursday at Mountain View Aquatic Center 6 to 7pm

NOTE: If none of these times work for you, special arrangements can be made by contacting Coach Larry at larry@larrybaskin.com for the Mountain View tryouts.

Plan to get to the pool with your swimmer ready to go: with goggles, cap, and towel.

Someone at the front desk at Mountain View can direct you to our spot on the pool deck.

We will want to see your swimmer do all the strokes; at least able to swim one length of freestyle and backstroke–25 yards.

The assessment will take about 10 minutes, plus some time for questions and answers about schedules and coaching fees.
